Three words: Hard Rock Café.
What do those words remind you of? If you’re like me, (and for your sake, I hope you’re not) they remind you of super cool T-shirts that could be worn with pride while telling the world, “Yeah, I went to London, and I spent my time in an overpriced burger franchise that defines commercialism and all that is wrong with American culture. Sweet!”
So thought it would be fun to make a “Top 10 List Of Things I Am Ashamed To Admit I Collected Back In The Day”
But all I could thing of were Hard Rock café shot glasses, and Beanie Babies.
I also collected rocks, My Little Ponies, and pictures of baby animals, but I’m not ashamed nor am I embarrassed by that. Because rocks, and little animals (ponies or otherwise) are still cool. In my opinion at least.
Thought bubble: Come to think of it- is Hard Rock Café even in business anymore? If so, I wonder how they’re denim jacket sales are doing now that Planet Hollywood is gonzo??
In Summary…
Good: Ummmm...pretty....
Oooooo... I want to brush they're sheeny manes…
So nice!!! I want to hug the baby tiger! (before it turns in to a potentially man-eating carnivore)
Bad…
Boooooo.... hissssssss.
A hex on you little bear! You and and all of your bean-bag friends who ate up all of my time and money!!!
I can’t be the only one who collected stupid things can I? Friends, please tell me that I’m not alone. And if you know anyone who wants to buy about 50 Ty Beanie Babies (all in mint condition of course…) let me know. AND if you can use the words "knicknackery" and "bric-a-brac" and "whatnot" in the same sentence, then you get extra double letter, tripple words score points!!

i have not only hard rock shot glasses (and some hats, pins, and shirts) but also many other shot glasses. Anyone looking to make a chess set? Cause I got enough shot glasses to make 2 sets. On top of that, after I stopped collecting (hoarding) shot glasses, a friend got my shot glass checkers, so I have a board, and another full set of shot glasses, except these match instead of saying Cabo San Lucas, WSU, and Longview on them...
One time when I used knicknackery, bric-a-brac and whatnot in the same sentence, I pooped myself.
One time when I got a triple word score, I pooped myself.
I remember your Beanie Baby phase and will continue to hold in my feelings of "wow, what a lot of time and money on stuffed things!". I especially dig the plastic label covers for the animals which were, at least supposed to, appreciate. I say hold on to 'em. You'll get the next wave of BB appreciation and be the first to sell your 'vintage' models on Ebay.
I have a glass Coca Cola bottle from every single country I've ever visited (except Turkey, because I just didn't have time to find one). I'm particulary proud of the Malta, Tunisia, and St. Lucia models.
Other than that, I don't collect crap anymore. My guitar collection is at critical mass at the moment.
wow, anonymous must have an awful lot of poop collected by now. Maybe everything's pilled up into chochkis and knickknacks and/or dust collectors.
Yes, I too remember your Beanie Baby phase, but am guilty myself of collecting crap back in the day. I had way too many penguins dolls, they have thankfully been adopted into better, more loving homes.
I only collect shoes now and of course I still have my collection of Smurf figurines, they are AWESOME! - Beth
Hmmm, I remember the Smurf/Scooby Doo/Star Wars glasses that you could get at fast food restaurants--that was a fun bit o' tchotschke for the ages. I think the precious moments figurines were by far the most heinous bits o'curio.
my little ponies rock!~
hard rock is lame.
chochkis i love to that that word.
Ahhh, collectibles. Yes, Stefanie, have you seen my Smurf collector glasses from Pizza Hut in 1986? I love them dearly. My friend Mo has the Care Bear ones too and I lust after those as well. I also remember having all possible Barbie paraphenalia, although not as much as my friend Misty, who had the Bob Mackie Barbie and other collector items that could now fund my education had I been able to just keep Barbie in the plastic box. Excellent topic my friend!
